In a nation still mourning the loss of President John F. Kennedy, the arrival of the Beatles brought a ray of sunshine into a rather dismal February on February 7, 1964. They also were riding high on their number one single "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and pending appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. A crowd of shrieking and screaming girls awaited them at the airport.
This was the start of Beatlemania and a British Invasion that far exceeded anything that had preceded it (even Elvis and Frank Sinatra mania). In short, the Beatles were on their way to conquering America and then onto the rest of the world. They were indeed four lads from Liverpool that shook the world.
